Does Okonkwo not like his other two wives, because everytime I read something in the book it always says how fond he is of his first wife.

Mrs. Townsend this book is crazy.. Why does Okonowo got 3 wives? If he is fond of his first.

I want to know if i understand the book so far. the main character Okonkwo has 3 wives and 5 children. one from the first wife that ran away from her first husband to marry him. the second has 3, and the third has 2? Okonkwo id so mean because he is afraid he'll go too soft and loose everything like his father?

If Okonkwo can have three wives, why can't I have three husbands?

Sorry I missed you when you came. Still love ya:)

I have a question... What is a kola and why s it an honor to break it?

Mrs. Townsend said...

Rosa, you are right on it!

Samantha and Kia, Okonkwo does seem to favor his first wife over the others. He may have a special place in his heart for her, and she also is the one who is "in charge" of the other wives.

Demiyah, I will be visiting again soon. :-) You bring up a good point (even though you were being sarcastic--I think): Why can't women have more than one husband? What does this say about this culture's view of women? How does this compare with our culture? What is acceptable for men and not acceptable for women in our society?

Rugrat, kola is a nut that is shared among friends. It is an act of courtesy and honor to break it and eat it together.

Beakie, Shawntal, The book uses a lot of flashback, so you will have to pay close attention to when the author goes back in time and repeats information.

Alec, Yes, it does pick up later on. There are a lot of graphic scenes--be ready!

Mrs. Townsend,
They said that they can beat their women, impling that they are unimportant, but then later in the story, some women are leaders and important. Whats up with that?

Thanks Mrs.Townsend, at first the book was REALLY boring but after the fifth chapter it starts to get more interesting.

The book is sort of interesting when you really get into it. But I dont understand why Okonkwo seems so mean towards his wives if he just doesn't want to end up like his dad.

Hey, Mrs. Townsend all i can really say is that this book could really use a little more excitment. It could also stop putting me to sleep. Who is this book mainly about?
What's so important about him?
I'm confused!

Hey mrs. townsend! This book is kind of interesting to me, HOWEVER, I don't really like the personality of this Okonkwo dude though. He reminds me of Chris Brown (lol). I really like the story though because it keeps me interested at some parts. Thanks for the read!

Hey Mrs.Townsend!!!I like the book but I don't think Okonkwo is a very nice person even though he has a strong personality.

Hello Mrs. Townsend this is Darryl, and as part of your bookclub I would like to say that I appreciate the fact that you asked us to read this novel. I really like it and even though it is serious it helps us to understand the thoughts and religions behind the people of different cultures.

This is a great and interesting book! Personally, my favorite character is Okonkwo because he's so nice and kind. It's just sad that he commited suicide after he did all that hard work to be succesful. It's ironic that he failed in life when he hated failure. So technically, he hated himself!Hope your baby's healthy!
